High-quality science, cross-cutting tools and a shared priority: ensuring that research ultimately reaches those who matter most, the patients.

Held on 18 and 19 June, the 3rd SIREV 2026 Meeting for Young Researchers brought together around 70 attendees at IOBA for two days of science, debate and emerging talent, with a clear underlying aim: to ensure that research ultimately reaches those who matter most, the patients.

Co-organised by the Society for Retina and Vision Research, SIREV, and the IOBA Unit of Excellence, the programme combined high-level scientific presentations with several particularly valuable cross-cutting sessions on scientific communication, mental health and academic culture, scientific career pathways in vision sciences, the use of experimental animal models in ophthalmology research, and artificial intelligence and ethics in research. Beyond these sessions, the meeting stood out for the scientific quality of the oral presentations and for the commitment of a new generation of researchers to rigorous, collaborative science aimed at improving visual health and patients’ lives.
